SPROUTS TEAMS’ EXPERIENCES IN THE MUMBAI BIRD RACE 2008 “The bright sun was burning our necks. We had been on the move since early morning. However, we all were happy… very happy.. the reason; an Osprey with a big fish in its clu tch, the first thing that we saw at the lake. We were sitting on the small jetty at IIT Powai lake. The whole lake bordered by tall and majestic buildings, was shining in front of us… probably in joy too, as it was getting the much needed attention on this day. It was the Mumbai Bird Race, an event much awaited by bird lovers”……that’s Ovee for you. Ovee had planned everything with her team of “Dusky Crag- Martins”, Reshma ( a student from Kirti college, studying Oceanography), Geeta (another Oceanography student from Mithibai college) and Sahila (engineering student from D J Sanghvi college and a fellow PUKAR-SPROUTS project team member). My 2nd book: Siboo's first day in the forest: Siboo and Simi, the 6 month old tiger cubs are taken for a forest walk by their mother for the first time

  Children are often very curious about animals and love seeing and interacting with them. However, as they start going to school, our educational system slowly takes them away from this natural world and somewhere along the way, their minds lose this curiosity about animals. When we take them to zoos or animal parks, we rarely teach them to be sensitive to animals or tell them anything about how life is for these animals in the wild. Through this book, the kids will see and learn through the eyes of Siboo the 6-month-old tiger cub, who steps out of the den and into the wild for the first time with his mother and sister. They come across different other animals and the mother teaches them the ways of survival. Through an absorbing narration and an edge-of-the-seat story accompanied by pictures, the book also subtly gives children an insight into animal behavior. The narrative is written in a style that children would love reading, again and again, thus also creating in them an interest

An assortment from the nature and wildlife archives

I have been an avid nature and wildlife lover and the progress to photography was only natural. From a point and shoot camera, to a handy-cam and then to a semi-professional  Canon S3IS, I switched finally to DSLR in July 2009. I began with Canon 1000 D and  a Sigma 150-500 OS and a year later, added Canon 18-55 mm IS to my kitty. The gear has been my companion for 4 years and I have travelled and used it extensively. I have now just upgraded to a Canon 7D. WHile my complete collection of thousands of photographs  can be seen at  https://picasaweb.google.com/108359053909554531885  , I thought I must sort and put up a compilation of what I think were my best clicks. Hence this post. I begin with images from my Canon S3IS, which taught me some basics of the different camera functions This image was at one of the parks in Mumbai.
