Attempting macros, without a macro lens

I have never had a macro lens; whenever I have done macros, its been my humble 18-55 mm lens. I don't often indulge in macros though. Tried it with my Canon 7D and the 18-55 for the first time. Also quite beginning to enjoy macros.......physically also less stressful  Thanks to Shubhalaxmi Vaylure for the mealy bugs ID and to Saurabh Sawant and Suraj Das for the common picture wing ID. An assortment from the nature and wildlife archives

I have been an avid nature and wildlife lover and the progress to photography was only natural. From a point and shoot camera, to a handy-cam and then to a semi-professional  Canon S3IS, I switched finally to DSLR in July 2009. I began with Canon 1000 D and  a Sigma 150-500 OS and a year later, added Canon 18-55 mm IS to my kitty. The gear has been my companion for 4 years and I have travelled and used it extensively. I have now just upgraded to a Canon 7D.   Children are often very curious about animals and love seeing and interacting with them. However, as they start going to school, our educational system slowly takes them away from this natural world and somewhere along the way, their minds lose this curiosity about animals. When we take them to zoos or animal parks, we rarely teach them to be sensitive to animals or tell them anything about how life is for these animals in the wild. Through this book, the kids will see and learn through the eyes of Siboo the 6-month-old tiger cub, who steps out of the den and into the wild for the first time with his mother and sister.
