Urban photography - through 19 hrs

Travelling through different cities in India and other countries, I have often captured the various sights - right from early morning to midnight. I am putting together here an assortment of some collections - one at each hour of the day, right from 6 am to 12 midnight. This is an assortment of various facets of city life - be it the cityscape, the architecture, the street life, the transport, the green patches, the people etc

6am: Morning walkers at Mumbai's Sanjay Gandhi National Park

8am : Mumbai sure is a concrete jungle, but there are green spots as well

9am: The sun peeps out on a cloudy day at Mumbai

10am : Dubai cityscape

11am: Singapore cityscape through the cable car

12 noon: Sinagapore looks like a well planned city

1 pm: The Barcelona railway station

2 pm: Barcelona city view 

3pm : Landing into Barcelona- view from the flight

4pm: People throng the famous Gaudi's home at Barcelona

5pm: People on the famous La Rambla street at Barcelona

6 pm: A street performer tries to scare a visitor at Barcelona's La Rambla

7pm : People trying to enter a market at Barcelona

8 pm: People relishing street food at Taiwan

9 pm : Taiwan's famed 101 tower

10 pm:Dubai cruise at niht

11 pm : Another view of Dubai at night

12 am : The famed Petronas towers of Kuala Lumpur at midnight

1 am: The view from Atlantis Dubai at 1 am

SPROUTS TEAMS’ EXPERIENCES IN THE MUMBAI BIRD RACE 2008 “The bright sun was burning our necks. We had been on the move since early morning. However, we all were happy… very happy.. the reason; an Osprey with a big fish in its clu tch, the first thing that we saw at the lake. We were sitting on the small jetty at IIT Powai lake. The whole lake bordered by tall and majestic buildings, was shining in front of us… probably in joy too, as it was getting the much needed attention on this day. It was the Mumbai Bird Race, an event much awaited by bird lovers”……that’s Ovee for you. URAN, the lost wetland: Our crusade to save it

Does your heart wrench, when you see the 2 collages below? This is the saga of this paradise - the Uran wetlands, that we lost in 2010, to human greed. Uran wetlands were home to around 200 species, including migratory birds. Not less than an estimated 75 species would  breed there. First breeding records of several bird species had been found at Uran eg the black breasted weaver birds, a species which was found breeding in the region after 52 yrs. Several of the IUCN Red Data status birds would regularly winter here. eg. the lesser flamingos, black tailed godwit, painted storks, oriental white ibis etc. It was a wintering area for many other bird species, including several Critically Endangered, Vulnerable and Near-threatened species.  Many bird ringing studies have been conducted by senior ornithologists here. An assortment from the nature and wildlife archives

I have been an avid nature and wildlife lover and the progress to photography was only natural. From a point and shoot camera, to a handy-cam and then to a semi-professional  Canon S3IS, I switched finally to DSLR in July 2009. I began with Canon 1000 D and  a Sigma 150-500 OS and a year later, added Canon 18-55 mm IS to my kitty. The gear has been my companion for 4 years and I have travelled and used it extensively. I have now just upgraded to a Canon 7D.
