The mighty Himalayas through my lenses: March 2012

To see the Himalayas, was a long cherished dream which came true  on my visit to Pangot in March 2012. And no words in any vocabulary can describe their beauty. Nothing that I have seen in life looks as magnificent. One just automatically feels like bowing down humbly to their might and grandeur and your hands go up in salute!!! It makes you feel how insignificant a puppet the human being is, in the hands of nature.....you get a feeling as if even a slightest fury of nature from the gigantic Himalayas can wipe out human existence altogether. The heart swelled with pride to be an Indian and that they guard us.

Though the pics do not even remotely do justice to what one actually sees with the eyes, I have captured those moments for life with my lens and am happy to share them with you.

Most of these images were captured as we climbed up the Vinayak road at Pangot. We were plain lucky that the loud cover lifted for about 30 min and we got such fabulous views. Pangot is a village in the Kosiyakutoli tehsil of Nainital district  in Uttarakhand, India. Pangot is located about 15 kilometers from Nainital, which is a popular hill station. The main attraction of Pangot are its birds and we too were there mainly for birding. One morning we were climbing the uphill Vinayak road in search of a rare and extremely shy bird, the Cheer pheasant, when we got these spectacular views.I was carrying my 150-500 lens for bird photography and it turned out to be a boon of a lifetime as it allowed me to capture the iced peaks closely. The play of light at different spots and different angles, made each picture a postcard. Within the same frame, one could capture the warmth of the sun as well as the chill of the snow.

What you see here, is the Nandadevi biosphere reserve, one of the global biodiversity hotspots

This wouldn't have been possible to capture, but for my 500 mm lens
